  1. What was your response to the ending of the novel? How do you feel about Henry and his journey of self-discovery?

  1. When the enemy charges (in Chapter 17), how does Henry fight? Afterward, how does he feel? How does he feel after eavesdropping on the two officers?

  1. How does Henry earn the praise of his lieutenant? During the regiment’s second charge (in Chapter 23), what role does Henry play?

  1. What memory at first darkens Henry’s proud feelings after the battle? How does he think his experiences have changed him?

  1.  Crane repeatedly uses animal images to describe the regiment’s fighting. Find three examples. Based on these images, how do you think the author might define courage?

  1. In what ways do you think the qualities Henry shows in battle would be useful in war today?

3. Begin studying for your final exam. Read over all The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Red Badge of Courage HW, classwork notes, vocabulary, and quizzes. Know the characters, plots, settings, and themes for each novel. We will study more together in class next week.

4. EXTRA POINTS PROJECT! To help yourself and your classmates study, create up to four slides focusing on an element of literature for one of our books. Each slide is worth ten extra points if you follow the directions correctly. (A total of 40 extra points may be earned!)
Slides should be created on GOOGLE SLIDES and shared with me via email (105olivia@gmail.com) before class Tuesday, December 3. We will use these slides in class for review and test prep.

1. Choose up to four types of slides:
    • Plot of HF or RBoC
    • Three characters of HF or RBoC
    • Three settings of HF or RBoC
    • Three themes of HF or RBoC
    • Three kinds of conflict in HF or RBoC
    • Tone, mood, and point of view in HF or RBoC
    • Three important symbols in HF or RBoC
    • Irony, repetition, and diction in HF or RBoC
    • Foreshadowing and flashback in HF or RBoC
(Feel free to double up on these slides. For instance, you could do all four slides about conflicts in HF, putting three conflicts on each slide.)

2. Add to your slides
  • Each slide should have at least one HS sentence per element. (One sentence per character,                    setting, element, etc.)
  • Each slide should have at least three pictures
  • Each slide should have at least three animations
Slides should be created on GOOGLE SLIDES and shared with me via email (105olivia@gmail.com) before class Tuesday, December 3. We will use these slides in class for review and test prep.

Please be creative with your slides, and please don't all of your just do slides on characters and settings! Let's learn something new!
