Five Paragraph Essay about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
- Choose one of the following themes, and create three topics under that theme.
- Include at least one appositive, one participial phrase, one absolute phrase, one prepositional phrase, one adjective phrase, and one adverb phrase.
- Make sure most sentences are complex, using a variety of sentence structures.
- Include at least five of your target vocabulary words, handed out in class on Oct. 23.

- Slavery in Huck Finn: Huck’s attitude toward it, the “civilized” attitude toward it, etc.
- Morality in Huck Finn: From where do morals come? Which morals are most important?
- The setting of Huck Finn and its importance to the overall message
- Belief systems in Huck Finn: religion, superstition, imagination, and belief in magic, etc. How does each character’s belief system direct their actions?
- How does Huck mature during this novel? What are some events that contribute to his “coming of age”?
- Ernest Hemingway once said that all American literature came from one book: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. According to Hemingway, it’s “the best book we’ve
- got.” Is Huck Finn a masterpiece in American literature? Give specific examples of
- why it is or is not.
- In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck is torn between the “sivilized” world and the freedom he finds on the Mississippi River. Explain how the river and the land are symbols for these opposing worlds, and what Huck gains from his experiences in both worlds by the end of the novel.
